IRVINE, CA – Doug Landrum, Shareholder in the Firm’s Business and Corporate Services Group, has been elected as the Vice Chair of the Opinions Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association.

Doug has been a member of the Steering Committee of the Opinions Committee since 2014.  Doug has also been selected as a member of the drafting committee formed to produce a sample opinion for commercial loan transactions secured by California real property.  Work on the sample opinion will begin in January 2018.

As of January 1, 2018, the 16 voluntary sections of the State Bar of California separated from the State Bar and became part of the California Lawyers Association – a newly formed nonprofit corporation.  The Opinions Committee will continue its work as before to provide guidance to California lawyers in preparation of third-party legal opinions.

The Steering Committee of the Opinions Committee of the Business Law Section sets the agenda for projects conducted by the Opinions Committee and recommends for approval by the full Opinions Committee of reports on projects undertaken by the Committee members.  The Opinions Committee also coordinates with activities of other committees of the Business Law Section such as the recent report of the Partnerships and Limited Liability Companies Committee and the Opinions Committee on Third-Party Closing Opinions: Limited Liability Companies and Partnerships.

Previously, Doug participated the drafting committee for the Sample California Third-Party Legal Opinion for Venture Capital Financing Transactions which was published in The Business Lawyer – a law journal published by the American Bar Association.

Membership on a Committee of the Business Law Section affords unique opportunities to participate in the creation of law in the appointee’s practice area, to get to know and be known by leading practitioners, to work with the recognized leaders in the appointee’s field and to stay on the cutting edge of developments and practice techniques.
